    the Vietnam war

I think the Vietnam War probably had something to do with me coming to America. The Vietnam War started in November 1946 and ended in 1973. The Americans and French supported the South Vietnamese while the Chinese supported the North Vietnamese. The French fought the northern Vietnamese and killed over 6,000 people. In July of 1954, it was decided that Vietnam was going to be divided into two parts at the 17th parallel. North Vietnam had a 16 million people in this part of the country. Most of the weapons that the North Vietnamese fought with were from the Chinese. The South Vietnamese also had 16,000 people in this part of the country.

Holidays

Vietnamese people celebrate a holiday called Tet. Tet means “lunar” New Year and the 1st day of the another year. This holiday lasts for seven whole days. On this day, all the people dress up and enjoy that day.  It began before spring to wish it a good year. People all over the world come to bring presents and things of that nature to wish everyone the best of luck. They celebrate this on a full moon for the plants to grow and produce. The kids dressed up and walked through the streets with paper lantern. The people that you communicate with on "Tet" would make it seem like you have good luck. They say that you do not supposed to communicate with people that are crying or mad over anything.

WEDDINGS IN VIETNAM

In Vietnam, the weddings are quite different from the ones in America. Over there, the mother of the groom has to go to the bride’s house to go offer 2 gifts to the bride’s family. The first gift would have to be a sign of respect, which over there is a special kind of plant. The second gift that the bride’s family receives is something that is a color of happiness and that would be the pink chalk. On the other hand, on the way to the wedding, the groom picks up a couple of family and friends. They bring gifts for the new married couple. Some examples of the gifts are money, jewelry, and types of clothing. The weddings are usually held at either the bride or the groom’s home.

*There are 5 types of educations in Vietnam.*

~They are as of the following:~

:(Pre-Primary education):

-The public kindergarten have children going to these schools at 18 months to 5 year olds. The kids that are four to five years old are usually taught their basic math and their ABC's. This type of education is only located in the major cities such as [Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Da Nang,etc...]

:(Primary education):

-When these kids are the age of six, they start their primary education. Primary education lasts for at least five years and is required for all children. That is probably why many of the students in Vietnam have a high literacy rate. Over 90% of the people living in Vietnam are average.

:(Intermediate education):

-This is known as the middle school over in Vietnam. It holds classes from 6th grade to 9th grade. This education is in most provinces across this country. To graduate from this school, they have to pass an examination given by the near-by DET [Department of Education and Training].

:(Secondary education):

-The students that pass the test [IGE] get to go to high school.  This school holds 10th, 11th, and 12th grade. The 12th graders will have to take a test called the SGE [Secondary Graduation Examination]. These schools are in most provinces and major cities.

:(Higher Education):

- The UEE [University Entrance Examination] is very important in these Vietnamese students' lives. To succeed and come to the "higher education", the high school students have to pass the SGE. About one million high school students take this test and only 1 out of 5 passes.
