Slavery! The practice of someone owning someone else. The slave days were hard and crucial times. Working without pay and being beaten for sometimes nothing at all was hard to endure. Looking back on these days make us think that we are blessed to have all the nice things we have today. Slavery was something that should have never even taken place. The whips, chains and small cabins didn't make it any better. Looking back knowing that our ancestors was apart of the horrible event in history, make us ask questions. Why did they have to go through this? What was the reason for this nonsense? What would've happened if President Abraham Lincoln would've never signed the Emancipation Proclamation? Would we still be living in a world of nonsense and frustration? Families being broken apart. Kids and husbands being sold away to unknown plantations and never seeing their families again. Living a short hard life made it even harder to live. Not knowing if you, a close friend, or even your own family members were going to wake up to see a brighter day. Working in the fields and hearing the master beat another slave around the corner was hard to hear, but sometimes they had no choice. They couldn't stop working or the master might whip them and if they decided to run where would they go. All the people wanted was a life and something they could call their own. All they ever wanted was FREEDOM!
