A cinder cone volcano is a very steep cone shaped hill
developed by explosive eruptions of cinder, ash, dust, and
rock particles that
piles up all around a single crater. Cinder cone
volcanoes have steep sides and narrow bases. Example:

composite volcano is made of layers of lava and rock formed
from a series of quiet, explosive eruptions eventually
forming a very high, wide volcanic cone with steep
sides. Example: Mount St. Helens in Washington
state.
