On hearing the words "Warm Springs", most people think of Franklin D. Roosevelt, 32nd President of the United States, the only President to be elected to office for four terms.  While President Roosevelt plays a large part in Warm Springs' notoriety, the springs themselves hold many interesting facts.

Just as President Roosevelt used the springs, Indians also used the warm water as a source of healing and comfort in sickness .  In the 1800's, the springs became a spa town.  People flocked to the water in hopes of being healed.  Unfortunately, it was discovered that the water did not have healing powers but the warmth and minerals did work together to relieve pain.  The water from the spring's temperature is about 88 degrees and is released at a rate of 800 gallons per minute.  Bicarbonate, magnesium, and sulfur are found in the water.  Bicarbonate is important in protecting the tissues of the central nervous system which would have been important to FDR.
