There were
many famous pirates throughout history. Most of these pirates impacted
the lives of thousands crew members. They are still remember to this
day. Some of the memories we have of these men are not all good. Most
of them were remember for the vast number of people they killed. HENRY MORGAN
Henry Morgan, Welsh
buccaneer, was the most famous of the adventurers who plundered Spain's Caribbean
colonies during the late 17th century. Operating with the unofficial support of
the English government, he undermined Spanish authority in the West
Indies.
BLACKBEARD
Blackbeard was the
nickname of an English pirate, Edward Teach, who attacked ships in the
Caribbean and along the Atlantic coast of North America
from 1716 to 1718. He apparently turned to piracy after a career as a privateer
during the War of the Spanish Succession . Operating from a base in North Carolina, Blackbeard terrorized the coastal
settlements of Virginia and the Carolinas. He was finally killed on Nov. 22, 1718, during
an engagement with a force sent from Virginia.
ANNE BONNY
Anne
Bonny was one of
the two most famous female pirates. She sailed on the crew of Calico
Jack
Rackham. Anne was romantically involved with Calico Jack but she could
be
counted as none the less as fearless as any other pirate. She was born
in CountyCork,
daughter of an attorney and his Maid. The lawyer left Ireland in
disgrace but found fortune in the Carolinas. There, he amassed a
fortune and bought a large
plantation.
BARTHOLOMEW ROBERTS
Bartholomew Roberts, by
the name of BLACK BARTY, was the pirate captain of a succession of ships--the
"Royal Rover," "Fortune," "Royal Fortune," and
"Good Fortune"--who burned and plundered ships from the coasts of
West Africa to the coasts of Brazil and the Caribbean and as far north as
Newfoundland. His conquests are said to have included more than 400 vessels and,
in terms of sheer numbers, are rivaled only by the feats of Sir Henry Morgan.
WILLIAM KIDD
William Kidd, by the name
of CAPTAIN KIDD, was a 17th-century British privateer and semi-legendary pirate
who became celebrated in English literature as one of the most colorful outlaws
of all time. Fortune
