Aviation was important in
the 1920’s.Orville and Wilber Wright of
Kitty Hawk
,
North Carolina
made the first flight in 1903. The airplane was used primarily in warfare
during World War I. Over the time, the airplane design changed.
In 1927,
Charles Lindbergh flew
New York
to Paris, France. His plane was called Spirit of St. Louis. He wanted to be the first
person to cross the
Atlantic Ocean
alone. The flight took 43 long hours. News spread quickly and he became a
hero all over the world. After Lindbergh’s flight, people became
interesting by air traveling. Before long, commercial airlines started
making flights. People started to ride airplanes more. The number of
people grew from about 6,000 to about 400,000.
