North
Carolina was first settled by English, Caribbean, and French. Most
of the colonists came to start a better life for their families.
It was sometimes easy and sometimes hard. One thing that was easy
is that North Carolina is in the south so the climate was warm and it
had flat land in places which was just right for farming.
Something that made it hard was making things like cloth for clothing,
getting wax for candles, not having a lot of supplies, and getting
ingredients to make soap.
Not long after North Carolina was settled, the colonists started to complain about bad government by the proprietor chosen by King George II. He chose them to help him rule the colony. North Carolina also had helpful natural resources, good soil (lots of minerals), and good wood for sturdy houses. So North Carolina was not just one of the 13 original colonies, but was a home for many people.
