Egyptian Vocabulary

Kings - Principal or chief, as in size or importance.

Queens – Married to the King or the King’s son.

Pyramids – Ancient monumental structure constructed of or faced with stone or brick and having a rectangular base and four sloping triangular sides meeting at an apex.

Gods – One that is worshiped, idealized, or followed.

Egyptians – People who live in Egypt .

Nile River The Nile is the longest river in the world, stretching north for approximately 4,000 miles from East Africa to the Mediterranean .

Necropolis –A cemetery, especially a large and elaborate one belonging to an ancient city.

Mastaba –An ancient Egyptian tomb with a rectangular base, sloping sides, and a flat roof.

Corridors – A narrow hallway, passageway, or gallery, often with rooms or apartments opening onto it.

Burial Chambers – The chamber in which a deceased person is located.

Granite –A common, coarse-grained, light-colored, hard igneous rock consisting chiefly of quartz, orthoclase or microcline, and mica, used in monuments and for building.

Temple A temple is a structure reserved for religious or spiritual activities, such as prayer and sacrifice, or analogous rites (as in masonry). It is a general term for a house of worship.

Pharaoh – A king of ancient Egypt .

Egypt The great mass of Egypt is located in Africa .

Historians – People who study history. He was 1341 B.C. He was born in Egypt . He died 1323 B.C. He is best known as Ancient ruler and famous 20th- century mummy.

Roman Empire –An empire that succeeded the Roman Republic during the time of Augustus, who ruled from 27 B.C. to A.D. 14.

Religion –A personal or institutionalized system grounded in such belief and worship.

Torsos – The human body excluding the head and limbs; trunk.

Rituals –A detailed method of procedure faithfully or regularly followed.

Headdress- A covering or ornament for the head.

Norse Terms

Aesir- They is the main race of gods, which includes all of the main gods, and was at war with the Vanir, but then made peace.

Vanir- They are a group of wild nature and fertility goddess, who were at war with the Aesir but the made peace with them. They are considered to be the bringers of youth, luck, health and the masters of magic.

Ragnarok- Ragnarok ("Doom of the Gods") is also called Gotterdammerung, which means the end of the cosmos in Norse mythology.

Yggdrasil- This is the world tree, in which all of the worlds can be reached.
