Mars Craters and Canyons
At the beginning of its history, the red planet experienced a period of intense meteor attack, as did other bodies in the solar system. This how Mars is similar to the moon.

Mars has different types of craters. Most craters were built on hard, rocky ground, but some are rampart craters where lobed ejecta are formed all around by a shock on frozen ground. However, the ground that was very compressed by the force of the event. The hollow of the crater itself, with its rim, is all that now remains.
