The 1970 was an exciting year for fashion for both men and women. The 1970s were filled with color; most everyone wore ties, tie-dye shirts, bright bandannas, and bell bottom pants, groovy disco suits, tight T-shirts, and baggy coats.
Women wore common designs that consisted of straight skinny shirts with synthetic or denim bellbottoms, a polyester knit suit, in a jacket and skirt, or a pant set, princess-lined polyester print dress or a one piece set dress or pant suit. Women had long free-flowing hair styles with girlish ponytails and pig tails.
Men wore colors such as rose, purple, orange and green. Checkered and striped patterns were also popular. They had wide ties with big floral prints and unstructured jackets. The disco look was popular for men. It consisted of colorful patterned polyester shirts, worn with light colored form fitting bell bottomed pants and matching jackets. Also favorably worn was the leisure suit. It was introduced for the upscale consumer and it was a casual substitute for the business suit. Men of all ages grew beards and long hair or in an afro.
There were many kinds of styles for both men and women, but the weirdest one is the punk rock fashion. It reveals spiked up different colored hair, torn black rock-and-roll t-shirts with white shirts under them, and torn black jeans. The shag cut, short on top longer on sides, and flat in back look was favored by both men and women.
The 70’s was considered the most exciting year in shoe design. To be considered fashionable, it was a must to wear platform shoes. Platform shoes ranged in all colors, shapes and sizes and were worn with about anything. Clogs became quite trendy because of there easy slip on, slip off access.
Fashion might cost a lot of money or just a couple of dollars. Some of the fashions were complicated, and others were very simple. The complicated ones were zebra, leopard, and tiger skin patterns on shirts and dresses. Some of the extremely simple ones looked like patches of different kinds of clothes sewn into dresses, shirts, and pants.
Different styles of the 70s included: Western boots, lots of lip gloss and blush, T-shirts with logos, denim, legwarmers, pantsuits, earth tones, leotards with wrap around skirts, and afros.
The seventies was definitely a time of excitement and new fads!
