At the beginning of the sixties, many of the fashions from the fifties were carried over including the "bouffant" look. A very popular hairstyle was a beehive, where they stacked their hair on tops of their heads. Women wore lots of black accesories, including black berets, tight black slacks for women, and dark glasses. Float shoes were popular for women and sandels were popular for men. Dark eye makeup was very popular for women. Short- shorts were a new and awsome fashion for women. People thought that these shorts were not very vulger but the length was still a problem. Women were known now for not only their dainty ankels, but for their whole leg. That was a dramatic change for fashion in the 60s. Clothes weren't always bright and colorful. The clothes and the colors of the clothes were totally drab. Boutiques started selling clothing that was bright and colorful for the youth. Mini-skirts and fake eyelashes were EXTREMELY popular for the women. Paisley shirts, velvet pants, and high collared Regency jackets were worn by men.
Beatles suits were so in in 63. The famous designer Cardin created them. The jacket was single breasted and collarless. Slim pants were the bottom. The designer Mary Quant created a label. She is the one who made Mini-skirts, tights in bright colors, and vinyl fashions that made you look soaked.
In 64, the space age look made a landing. All sorts of materials such as metal disks and plastic were put on these clothes. Also, leather was used. Bright metallics or neons were definantly involved.
Two years later, Mini skirts became much shorterand new, unique patterns became popular. the plastic dress was born. This look was produced by John Bates.

Other coultures infused the Amaerican fashion. Ethnic fashions are fashions that come from other cultures. Fashions that looked like they were from China and African style.
Skirts weren't the only thing that got longer during this decade. Hair was long for both men and women. Skirts and dresses that were floor length were called maxies. Not only did hippies and flower children decorate thier homes, cars, and clothes, they also decorated thier bodies!
During the second half of the sixties, the fashion was more subtle. The social changes and the fashion changes swept the world and became international! Hemlines became a bolder statement. New approaches in color created quite a stir. Not all women went around dressed like hippies and held signs protesting the Veitnam war, many women chose a more conservative look. Polo dresses and shirt dresses were very popular. This era was a SUPER time in fashion!
