The 1920’s were an era of change. Radios filled the homes of all Americans and got everyone moving to the jazzy new beat. The women made the most dramatic change in the 1920’s. The women finally came out of their shell and earned the right to vote. A new French designer named French Jean Patou designed 2 pieced sweater and skirts sets made out of luxurious wool jersey. Elsa Schiaparelli was a new designer and she represented the younger generation. She also designed her interpretation of the elegant evening gown. In the early decade, hemlines for women were a few inches above the ankle and waistlines were comfortable. In the late 1920’s hemlines progressed upward for a more daring and engaging fashion called the “flapper”.
Men style didn’t make as much of a dramatic change as did the women. Men wore their collars stiff and their jackets were worn high-waisted and sometimes they belted them. Their slacks were usually worn narrow. During the 1920s the raccoon hats were very popular. Men wore trousers that were 24 inches at the bottoms. As the decade progress the suit became more relaxed. Tailcoats were appropriate for formal occasions and so were black patent leather shoes. They were mostly worn during the fashionable dinners. The twenties were definitely TREMENDOUS!!!!!!!!!
